That constant guilt, the feeling you're about to get in trouble, the reflex to blame yourself for everything — those aren't personality flaws. They're patterns you learned in childhood, and patterns can change. Over 7 days, guided by videos from childhood trauma therapist Patrick Teahan, you'll identify the role you played in your family, name the dynamics that shaped you, and build a daily journaling practice to catch old patterns in real time. Each day: one video and one small, concrete mission. By day 7, you'll have your own pattern journal and a toolkit for responding as your adult self.

Day by day, in detail

Day 1🎬 ✍️ Watch the 5 lost childhood personalities and find yours +1

🎬 Watch the 5 lost childhood personalities and find yours

▶ Patrick Teahan · 5 Types of Lost Childhood Personalities

✍️ Name the role you played in your family

✍️ Right now, while the video is fresh: which of the personalities did you recognize yourself in? Maybe it's one, maybe a mix. Write down which one hit closest, one specific childhood memory that fits it, and one way that role still shows up in your adult life today (at work, in relationships, when someone's upset with you).

Day 2🎬 📓 Check your family against the 9 oddly specific issues +1

🎬 Check your family against the 9 oddly specific issues

▶ Patrick Teahan · Was This Your Family? (9 Oddly Specific Issues)

📓 Open your pattern journal

📓 This journal is your core tool for the week. Every time an old pattern fires — a wave of guilt, the 'I'm in trouble' feeling, blaming yourself for something that isn't yours, going quiet to keep the peace — come back here and log it as soon as you can. You're not fixing anything yet. You're collecting evidence. Getting the moment out of your head and into words already takes some of its charge away.

Day 3🎬 🔁 Understand why you blame yourself for everything +1

🎬 Understand why you blame yourself for everything

▶ Patrick Teahan · Why You Blame Yourself for Everything (Childhood Trauma)

🔁 Catch the self-blame in the wild today

🔁 I logged every self-blame moment I noticed today in my pattern journal — without judging myself for having them

Day 4🎬 ✅ Learn to disarm the 'I'm in trouble' feeling +1

🎬 Learn to disarm the 'I'm in trouble' feeling

▶ Patrick Teahan · How to Stop Feeling Like You're in Trouble

Build your reality-check toolkit

  • I picked 1-2 ideas from the video that I can actually use when the 'in trouble' feeling hits
  • I wrote down my early-warning sign — how my body tells me the feeling has started (tight chest, dread, replaying conversations…)
  • I wrote one reality-check question to ask myself, e.g., 'Am I actually in trouble right now, or does this just feel familiar?'
  • I practiced my reality check once today, even in a calm moment, so it's ready when I need it
Day 5🎬 🔁 Watch how healing from a narcissistic parent works +1

🎬 Watch how healing from a narcissistic parent works

▶ Patrick Teahan · Healing From a Narcissistic Parent

🔁 Journal it and run one reality check

🔁 I logged today's pattern moments and used my reality-check toolkit at least once when an old feeling showed up

Day 6✍️ Read your journal back and find the thread

✍️ Read your journal back and find the thread

✍️ Read through your pattern journal from this week like you're reading about someone you care about. What sets the patterns off most — certain people, tones of voice, mistakes? Which shows up more: self-blame, the 'in trouble' feeling, or slipping back into your childhood role? And what's one moment this week where you responded differently than you would have 7 days ago? Write it down — that's the thread to pull on.

Day 7🎯 Final challenge: one full day as your adult self

🎯 Final challenge: one full day as your adult self

🎯 Spend today catching every old pattern the moment it fires — and answering it as your adult self.

Here's the whole week in one day. Every time the self-blame, the 'I'm in trouble' dread, or your old family role shows up: pause, name it ('that's the pattern, not the truth'), run your reality-check question, and choose what your adult self would actually do next. You won't catch every one — that's not the goal. Awareness is the win. At the end of the day, post your proof: how many patterns you caught, which reality check worked best, and one sentence to the version of you from day 1. This is week one of a longer road — and you just showed yourself the road is real. 🌱
