7-Day Rumination Rescue with Dr. Scott Eilers
Seven days of psychologist-grade tools to break the overthinking loop, calm a haywire nervous system, and quiet your harshest self-talk.
The content is free to read. To track your progress and keep your streak you need a free account.
Replaying the same stressful thoughts feels like problem-solving, but it's a loop that goes nowhere. Over 7 days you'll train the tools Dr. Scott Eilers teaches on his channel: a concrete strategy for defeating rumination, a first-aid kit for when your nervous system goes haywire, a simple graph that dismantles all-or-nothing self-judgments, and radical acceptance for the things you can't change. One video and one small, doable mission per day. By day 7 you'll have a personal playbook for heavy-mind moments β built by you, not just watched.

Day by day, in detail
Day 1π¬ βοΈ Watch how to stop thinking about what stresses you out +1β
βοΈ Name your loop and run the strategy once today
βοΈ Be honest: what's the one topic your mind keeps circling back to lately? Write it down and give it a short nickname (e.g. "the work thing"). Then write, in one or two lines, how you'll apply the anti-rumination strategy from the video the very next time that loop starts β today counts.
Day 2π Open your rumination logβ
π Open your rumination log
π This log is your core tool for the week. Every time you catch yourself spiraling, come back here and jot it down as soon as you can. It doesn't need to be pretty β getting the thought out of your head and onto the page already loosens its grip, and by day 6 you'll use these entries to spot your patterns.
Day 3π¬ β Learn the 12 tools for a haywire nervous system +1β
π¬ Learn the 12 tools for a haywire nervous system
β Build your 3-tool first-aid kit
- I picked the 3 tools from the video that fit my life best
- I wrote them somewhere I'll actually see them (phone note, sticky note, lock screen)
- I test-drove one of them today, even though I felt fine
- I wrote my if-then rule: "If I notice my system going haywire, then I start with tool #1"
Day 4π¬ βοΈ Watch the graph that fixes all-or-nothing thoughts +1β
π¬ Watch the graph that fixes all-or-nothing thoughts
βοΈ Draw the graph for your harshest self-judgment
βοΈ Pick one black-and-white thought you have about yourself ("I'm a failure", "I always mess this up"). Now do the exercise from the video on paper: sketch the graph for that trait and honestly place yourself and real evidence on it. Then write here what the thought sounds like when it's accurate instead of absolute.
Day 5π¬ π Watch how to radically accept things you hate +1β
π¬ Watch how to radically accept things you hate
π Practice acceptance on one unchangeable thing
π I chose one frustrating thing I can't change, practiced radical acceptance on it the way the video describes, and logged any spiral it triggered instead of fighting it
Day 6π¬ βοΈ Watch how to care less about what people think +1β
π¬ Watch how to care less about what people think
βοΈ Find your patterns in the log
βοΈ Read back through your rumination log. When do the spirals hit most β night, mornings, after your phone? How many are about other people's opinions of you? And which tool actually worked best: the day-1 strategy, your first-aid kit, the graph, acceptance? Name the pattern and your best weapon against it.
Day 7π― Final challenge: one full day of catch-and-releaseβ
π― Final challenge: one full day of catch-and-release
π― Spend one entire day catching every spiral early and answering it with your playbook.
The goal isn't a thought-free day β it's a day where no loop runs unattended. Each time you catch a spiral: name it, pick the right tool for the moment (your day-1 strategy, one of your 3 first-aid tools, the graph, or acceptance), use it, and return to what you were doing. At the end of the day, post your proof: how many loops you caught, which tool did the heavy lifting, and how your mind feels compared to day 1. That playbook is yours now β keep the log open and keep using it. πͺ
